THE Middle Ages were brought to life at the Museum of Oxford to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.

Young visitors were given the chance to dig into a medieval rubbish pit and discover more about the lives of those who lived in Oxford hundreds of years ago.

Among the visitors on Monday were Jo and Sam Wong, who came along with mum Nicky Warren. Sam, aged eight, a pupil at St Ebbe’s Primary School, said: “I enjoyed my day. My favourite bit was the ice skates.

“They were medieval and were for going on the River Thames when it was frozen.

“They were a bit of polished bone with leather straps and they had a pole too.

“I like Horrible Histories and I like medieval times most of all because it was a very funny time. I have been to the museum before but not when it was set up for medieval times.”

Mrs Warren said; “They really enjoyed it. It was really good to go and rummage through things in the rubbish heap.”

The Magna Carta exhibition is open again on Monday and next Thursday from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
