THE GREAT Bicester Bake Off is coming to town and organiser Angela Pearson is calling on bakers to get creative in the kitchen.

Miss Pearson is staging the town cooking competition on Saturday, September 5, to raise money to help find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy(MD).

Her two sons Adam McKechnie, 15, and Jay Mc- Kechnie, 10, were both diagnosed with the progressive muscle-wasting condition.

She said: “The idea was from watching the TV show and we did a cake sale a couple of years back which was really successful. We wanted to expand on that and thought baking is really popular at the moment.

“Adam was diagnosed aged eight with the muscle-wasting condition, which is progressive so over time he will lose muscle mainly in his legs and arms and eventually will be in a wheelchair.

“Jay was diagnosed a couple of years later, aged three.

“There is no cure and the charity helps out a lot of people like myself. Our main goal is to find a cure.”

The condition will get progressively worse for both boys as they grow older.

Miss Pearson lives with partner Chris McKechnie and the boys in Launton, near Bicester.

The charity has helped them with advice and information on MD.

The Great Bicester Bake Off – based on the popular BBC show – will see cake creations judged by a panel including Bicester Mayor Jim French. Entry is free but the cakes will be donated towards a charity cake sale afterwards.

The mother-of-two and carer added: “We will have the bake-off and then the cakes will be sold afterwards plus a raffle. There will also be a couple of people doing cooking demonstrations such as icing fairy cakes and other skills.

“I have had a few emails requesting entry forms and I am hoping more people will put in forms after everyone has had their holidays. The boys will be helping out on the day and have said they will be on the cake stall, probably stuffing their faces all day.”

The competition will be held from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at The Nightingale Pub, in Langford Village. There will be adult and under 16s categories, plus prizes.
