A MOTHER-of-two who was beaten by her ex-boyfriend for more than an hour said she thought he was going to kill her, a court heard.

Dewayne Mason, of Humfrey Road in Barton, Oxford, faces one count of grievous bodily harm with intent on February 15.

The 38-year-old denies attacking Jemma Cadle at her home in Warren Crescent, Headington.

In a recorded video interview with police, shown at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Ms Cadle said she was woken up in the early hours of the morning by the defendant “hammering” on her front door.

She said she opened the door and ran up to her bedroom to put on more clothes, when he “headbutted” her, which caused her to fall on her bed.

The 34-year-old told officers Mason then started punching her, strangling her, dragging her by her hair and using his knees to pin both of her arms down.

The alleged victim told jurors at Oxford Crown Court yesterday she was left with cuts and bruising to her face and arms, as well as a punctured lung.

She also said Mason held her head in front of a mirror to show her “what he had done”.

Ms Cadle said a voicemail played to the court, which was left on Ms Cadle’s phone by the defendant at 6.22am, recorded Mason banging on her door. She also told jurors she left her home between 8am and 8.30am, running to neighbours’ houses for help.

Defence barrister Lauren Soertsz asked Ms Cadle why she did not call the police when the defendant was at her door. Ms Cadle replied: “I was scared he was going to come through. I wanted to stop it so I opened the door.”

The trial continues and Mason was remanded in custody.
