YOU may recall that I have been attempting to persuade our British PM to rectify the omission of a campaign medal award for Bomber Command when this was considered by Clement Attlee and his HD Committee in 1946.
Commander in Chief Harris and AOC 8 Group Bennett (Pathfinder Force) were refused any honours or the award of a BC campaign medal.
In December 2012, PM David Cameron awarded a full Arctic Star campaign medal belatedly to the convoys seamen involved, but simultaneously only an inconspicuous, inadequate clasp to BC aircrew and no award at all for the essential ground crew we had relied upon day and night regardless of outside weather conditions in which they worked. We simply disagree with the PM’s decision and continue to seek its amendment.
