A man is today being held by police after a woman was sexually assaulted, Thames Valley Police said.
TVP said a woman was in Horspath Road, Cowley, when a man approached her, spoke to her and then sexually assaulted her at about 4am today.
The woman, in her 20s, screamed out and hit him, before he ran away along Horspath Road and towards Hollow Way, according to police.
A 20-year-old Oxford man has been arrested and was today in police custody, the force said.
Detective Inspector Mike Roddy, from Oxfordshire Force CID, said that police officers had been going door-to-door in the area as part of the investigation.
He added: "If anyone witnessed the incident please call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101."
