A MAN who repeatedly breached a restraining order forbidding him to visit his grandmother was jailed for 16 months.

Scott Weddell was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting breaching the order, which prevents him from visiting Berinsfield where grandmother Jeanne Geddes lives.

The order was first handed to the 36-year-old in December 2007 after years of attacking and harassing members of his family.

Prosecutor Rachel Drake said Weddell, who has breached the order 15 times between 2008 and 2014, was spotted by a police officer in Berinsfield on June 22.

She said he visited his grandmother twice that day, with Ms Geddes telling her grandson to first go away and later giving him £4 for his bus fare.

The prosecutor said the restraining order protects “vulnerable” 89-year-old Ms Geddes after concerns Weddell would steal from her, “pester” her and “coerce” her into giving him money.

Ms Drake added: “It is clear that he has frequently breached the restraining order which has been in place for many years.”

Defence barrister Robert Lindsey said Weddell visited Berinsfield on June 22 to see his sister, who recently had a stroke and moved from Wales back to the family home.

Judge Ian Pringle said: “It’s yet another breach of a restraining order.

“I know you don’t believe in this restraining order, you think it’s wrong.

“If you keep breaching it, you will keep on getting longer prison sentences and if you want to spend most of your adult life in prison, then you are going the right way about it.”

Weddell, of Oxford Night Shelter, Luther Street, now known as Oxford Homeless Pathways, was also ordered to pay a court charge of £180 and a victim surcharge.
