A MAN was rescued from a block of flats in Littlemore after a fire began after a saucepan was left on a hob.
A quick thinking neighbour had alerted the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue service at 8.12pm yesterday after they had noticed smoke coming from the flat at Edith Kempson House, Chapel Lane.
Fire crews from Slade Park and Rewley Road were called and firefighters rescued the man.
Incident commander Will McPhail said: "The occupant in this case was very lucky, if it wasn't for a keen eyed neighbour who had noticed the smoke coming from the flat window the consequences of the fire could have been much worse."
The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by South Central Ambulance service and was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital.
