VOLUNTEERS are needed to lend a hand during a charitable culture crawl across the city.

Cancer centre Maggie’s Oxford said it needs people to help during its eight-mile fundraising walk on September 11.

Fundraisers are set to wind their way through the city’s streets at night, admiring Oxford’s history, arts and culture sites. Participants will also get exclusive access to the city’s cultural buildings.

The event begins at 6.30pm and will see walkers set off for their adventure from Oxford Brookes University Sports Centre.

Walkers will then visit Oxford Castle Unlocked, County Hall, Christ Church Cathedral and Maggie’s Oxford centre before finishing back at the university’s sports centre.

Guides dressed as characters will lead fundraisers up St George’s Tower while at Oxford Castle Unlocked walkers will descend underground into a 900-year old crypt.

The holding cells buried beneath the 19th century County Hall will also be opened for walkers to explore, along with the council chamber and coroners court.

Fundraisers can also meet the Maggie’s Oxford team when visiting the centre and hear about the work they do.

Funds raised will go towards Maggie’s Oxford, which has supported people suffering with cancer across the county since it opened at the Churchill Hospital last year.

Residents are asked to raise a minimum of £100 after signing up for the event.

It costs £25 to join the fundraiser.
