The number of sexual offences reported in the county rose by 43 per cent last year with nearly 1,000 in total.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics today showed 991 sexual offences were reported in Oxfordshire between April 2014 and March 2015 – compared with 693 the previous year.

Nationally reported sexual offences rose by 37 per cent.

The total recorded crime figures were down on last year with 32,834 crimes reported, compared with more than 35,000 in 2013/14.
