SO, OUR county council is considering closing the recycling points including Ardley.

What do our councillors think they will gain from this?

I can tell them: Nothing.

What it will do is increase refuse to be collected by lorries on bin days; overflowing bins causing obstructions to paths and even more flytipping too.

The council, over the last few years, has been crying out about how much it costs to keep flytipping under control and how much it is damaging the countryside.

Now it is considering removing the only way in which the public can do something about it.

Or are they expecting volunteers to deal with it for them?

I can remember when the council started locking tip gates, how flytipping suddenly became the plague it is today. Closure may save on site staff but how many more personnel will it take to monitor offenders and take action to keep flytipping at today’s level.

I only hope that the district and parish councils along with the public kills this idea off, before the county spends thousands on feasibility reviews.
