CREWS were called to a chimney fire at Le Manoir aix Quat’ Saisons, the top hotel and restaurant run by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc.

Firefighters arrived at the hotel in Great Milton after smoke from the chimney started billowing into a dining area at 2.45pm yesterday, setting off a fire alarm.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire Service said staff quickly evacuated the area, called the fire service, and made sure that no one went back into the hotel.

A fire crew from Wheatley attended with firefighters from Oxford, who brought a hydraulic platform to tackle the blaze.

After the fire was put out fans were used to clear the smoke.

The incident commander, Watch Manager Mark Keely, said: “I would like to praise the actions of staff at le Manoir.

“The attention to detail and compliance with their clearly drilled procedures made this potentially dangerous incident very simple to deal with.

“It just proves that the early warning provided by smoke detectors really does save lives and unnecessary damage to property.”
