MORE than 30 firefighters tackled a blaze in a Great Milton home.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the detached house just after 5pm on Sunday, where a fire which started at the rear of the property spread to the roof.

At its peak, six fire engines and a specialist incident support vehicle were at the scene.

Nobody was hurt during the incident and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Crews attacked the fire from outside the building and officers entered wearing breathing apparatus to stop it spreading to the rest of the house.

Salvage operations also took place inside the house to try to minimise damage to the owner’s property.

Group manager Rob MacDougall said: “The initial crews had to make some quick decisions on how to tackle the fire.

“They were good decisions and they have reduced the overall impact of this incident.

“Our crews have shown great professionalism and determination to make sure the fire was dealt with and the owner’s property was salvaged. They have done a brilliant job.

“If this warm weather continues, people need to be extra vigilant and should consider our summer fire safety advice.”
