THREE men have been convicted of running a solar panel business that misled its customers after a trial at Oxford Crown Court.

The men committed the offences while trading as Solar for You, which installed solar panels on people’s roofs between 2011 and 2013.

They were convicted of carrying out incompetent or incomplete work, installing “overpriced” systems, not providing the necessary paperwork, and misleading customers about the benefits, origins and specifications of products.

On Thursday, they were found guilty of breaching the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 in relation to 14 people, half of whom live in Oxfordshire.

Jason Cunningham, 28, of Bradmore Way, Lower Earley, Reading, was found guilty of 22 counts of breaching consumer regulations and one count of fraud by false representation. He was cleared of one further count of breaching consumer regulations.

Srinivas Basavaraju, 40, of Berkeley Avenue, Reading, was found guilty of two counts of breaching consumer regulations and one count of fraud by false representation. He was cleared of four further counts of breaching consumer regulations.

Thomas Murray, 38, of Headley Road East, Reading, was found guilty of six counts of breaching consumer regulations. He was cleared of 13 further counts of the same offence.

They were all released on bail and will now be sentenced on July 27.
