THREE people have been arrested in connection with a sexual assault and an assault in Port Meadow.
Officers said at about 8pm on July 3 at the Fiddlers Island area of Port Meadow, Oxford, a man touched a teenage girl inappropriately over her clothing.
Police said the man is white and in his 30s.
The incident is being linked to an assault that occurred in the same area between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on the same night.
The victim of the assault, a man in his 30s, was adjacent to the bridge in Fiddlers island when he was approached by a man and a number of women.
Police added another man and a woman pushed the victim into the river and then went on to punch and kick him after he got out of the water.
The victim suffered a cut to his shoulder and cuts to his head. He attended the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and has since been discharged.
A 19-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on July 3 and released on police bail until August 23.
A 33-year-old woman from Oxford and a 16-year-old girl from Oxford have also been arrested on July 3 and released on police bail until on August 22.
Investigating officer, Det Con Chris Gulvin, said: “There were estimated to be around 40 other people in the area either swimming or enjoying a walk by the riverside on what was a hot summer evening.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who saw either incident and, no matter how insignificant they think the information is, I would urge them to call me via 101.
“I am keen for members of the public to give me descriptions of the persons involved to further assist the investigation.
“We believe both incidents are linked and are investigating the circumstances.”
