THERE can be no doubt of the fact that an Englishman’s home is his castle.

However humble it may be, this fortress called home is decorated and loved by its protective owner.

Therefore it is hardly surprising that the financial incentives to create more home owners has proved so popular. Indeed the promises of 70 per cent discounts for tenants under the right to buy no doubt helped swing the General Election.

This is because the policy of home ownership appeals to the aspirations and ambition of many hardworking tenants.

In my opinion this is a good thing as the homeowners may be more inclined to look after and improve their homes as happened previously under the right to buy schemes.

Although the scheme may cause housing shortages, on balance I feel that every aspiring Englishman and woman deserves a chance to step up to own his precious castle.
