CHEERFUL teachers and fundraisers were having a ball when they opened an astro-nomical new community sports pitch.
The new artificial pitch was opened by Larkmead School headteacher Chris Harris along with members of the organisations, businesses and community groups which helped raise the £62,820 needed to build it.
Mr Harris said the pitch was not just for the students at the secondary school, in Faringdon Road, Abingdon, but a facility for the whole community to enjoy.
He added: “Larkmead is a school which truly values its community and working together .”
The cash for the pitch – which has space for basketball, netball, tennis and five-a-side football – was donated by businesses such as Lloyds Bank, the county council’s Chill Out Fund and the Armed Forces Community Covenant Fund.
