ROME wasn’t built in a day, but that didn’t stop the students at Cheney School from trying.
A Roman Day was held at the Headington school on Thursday, with the help of re-enactment group Comitatus and their horse, Apollo.
The group brought a complete living history presentation to Years 7 – 9 and demonstrated the life and skills of the Late Roman army.
Daniel Fernandes, 14, fully immersed himself in the authenticity of the day by dressing from head to toe in Roman soldier attire.
He said: “I thought that it was absolutely brilliant, I really enjoyed dressing up and all of the displays they brought to show us.
“I learnt a lot about the Romans.”
The displays included archery, darts, javelin throwing on horse-back and mosaic work.
Local primary schools, including East Oxford, St Michael’s, Pegasus and Windalte were invited to join the day’s events.
