TO GIVE away highly sought-after social housing under an extension of Right to Buy is astonishing for all the reasons stated in yesterday’s article ‘Housing boss totally against expanded Right to Buy policy’.
Apart from anything else, it is so unfair on the private renters who are trapped into unmanageable costs.
They can’t save to buy and, if on housing benefit, quite rightly, when they earn more their benefit decreases, unlike tenants in social housing.
I like Labour leadership contender Jeremy Corbyn’s cat among pigeons idea in suggesting allowing private tenants the right to buy, to be paid for by loss of tax allowances to landlords.
