Sir – Quite how Mr Emlyn-Jones (Letters, June 25) gets from me pointing out that Mr McNaney’s letter is an example of someone taking offence on religious grounds in order to close down debate, to his observation that I was suggesting vilification or incitement to hatred, baffles me. I said no such thing.
I actually said that Mr Emlyn-Jones was “making a reasonable point” that was “worthy of debate”.
He is maddeningly difficult to agree with, I think I preferred it when I disagreed with him. Hopefully my letter in last week’s issue made it clearer. In case it hasn’t, may I say that I too agree totally with Stephen Fry’s far healthier view of sex.
