WITH reference to a recent letter in the Oxford Mail regarding Red Kites, here in Radley, we have various birds, including Red Kites.
When the garden goes eerily quiet and the birds have disappeared you know the villain is about, the Sparrow Hawk. He/she plunders nests for chicks and if a bird has not taken cover, it is likely to take that.
Occasionally I put meat scraps out for the birds and a Red Kite will swoop in and take some.
However, the other birds take no notice.
Normally I put seed out.
Rooks, Crows and Starlings are not quarrelsome ones and Wood Pigeons do kill each other.
