THE police helicopter was scrambled into action after a motorist stopped on suspicion of using his phone at the wheel fled from traffic officers.
A police patrol stopped a man driving a Ford car at Seacourt Park and Ride at about 1.15pm today on suspicion of driving while using his mobile phone.
But when questioned by the officers, the man fled his vehicle and ran away, prompting the helicopter to be deployed to try to find him.
Police spokeswoman Hannah Jones said despite the ground and air search for the man, he had not been located.
Mrs Jones insisted there was no danger to the public.
A vehicle has been recovered but she refused to divulge the model or colour at this stage.
