A man charged with arson and other offences in Beckley was remanded in custody yesterday until July 24.
Mohammed Chaudrey, 20, of Brome Place, Oxford, was arrested on Sunday and charged with one count of arson, one count of burglary, one count of criminal damage and two counts of aggravated vehicle taking without the owner’s consent.
A woman reported that a black Audi 4x4 had been stolen from Woodperry Road on Sunday and the vehicle was later found abandoned in Cutteslowe, North Oxford.
At the same time there was a fire at a house in Woodperry Road, near where the car had been stolen.
Nobody was in the house at the time and firefighters attended to put out the blaze.
Chaudrey was remanded in custody until July 24 when he will appear at Oxford Crown Court.
