PROPOSALS for a £12.5m package of transport improvements in Headington could see new cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and bus lanes.

Oxfordshire County Council will start asking residents, workers and visitors to the area for their views on the Access to Headington project from this Friday.

The scheme would cover the B4495 from Cherwell Drive/Marsh Lane to Horspath Driftway and the Eastern Bypass, as well as Old Road.

The county council has suggested the money would also be used for junction improvements, changes to on-street parking and road widening.

The consultation will run through July and August and it is hoped work could begin as early as next summer.

Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member for the environment David Nimmo Smith said:  “This project is great news for Headington.

“Oxfordshire County Council has been successful in obtaining substantial government funding for the Access to Headington project.

“The funding is to improve access to the area and will help us to make better use of an already busy road network in coming years with the emphasis on public transport, cycling and walking.

“We are keen that local people come along, see the plans and give us some feedback.”

Exhibitions on the plans will be held to allow people to view the proposals in person.

The first will be held on Friday at St Anthony’s of Padua in Headley Way from 1pm to 8pm followed by another at New Marston Primary School, Copse Lane, on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

A third exhibition will be held on Thursday, July 8 at Wood Farm School in Titup Hall Drive from 1pm to 8pm and the fourth will take place at St Andrew’s Primary School, London Road, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 11.

People will also be able to view proposals and give feedback online at consultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk
