FORMER rowing champion Sarah Winckless added another honour to her collection when she received a degree from Oxford Brookes.
Ms Winkless was the latest recipient of an honorary degree from the university, following motorsport legend Sir John Surtees on Monday.
The former British Olympic rower won a bronze medal at the 2004 games in Athens and was a world champion in 2005 and 2006. She retired in 2009 and is now a sports mentor and chairman of the British Olympic Committee’s Athlete’s Commission.
She was awarded the honorary degree by six-time rowing world champion and Olympic gold medallist Katherine Grainger, who is now Oxford Brookes’ Chancellor.
Vice-chancellor Prof Alistair Fitt said: “Each of the recipients is an exceptional role model for our students, staff and the wider community.
“To have such inspirational figures joining us for some of the university’s most memorable moments is a real honour.”
Man Booker prize-winning author Dame Hilary Mantel will receive her honorary degree tonight.
