A WOMAN who was assaulted in nightclub feared her attacker was going to kill her, a court heard.

Abdulrahman Abdelsalam is accused of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on March 22 last year.

The 20-year-old, of Watling Avenue, Edgware, Middlesex, denies groping and punching the woman several times at the Plush Lounge.

Opening the case at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, prosecutor Jonathan Stone said the alleged victim was dancing at the Park End Street nightclub with friends when she was groped from behind.

He said the woman poured her drink over Abdelsalam’s head after he continued to touch her arm, despite her telling him not to, but he then threatened her.

Mr Stone added: “Then he proceeded to hit her square on the nose and that was followed up by fairly swift punches to her face, which sent her tumbling to the floor.

“This case is about what we say is a cynical sexual assault on a young woman in a nightclub. And after she stuck up for herself, after that sexual assault, that was followed by quite a nasty physical assault.”

The woman said: “I thought he was going to try and kill me. I was terrified.”

Defence barrister David Smithet said: “He struck you because you had struck him more than once. Not only with your hand or fist but also with a bottle.”

She denied hitting Abdelsalam with a bottle.

The trial continues.
