OXFORD University Hospitals Trust said there were “many” operating theatres in the trust’s hospitals, including several dedicated to emergency lists (June 22).
However it is management who decide how many stay open at any one time.
Managers can veto opening more than one theatre, and veto calling in more surgical staff, regardless of patient need. This certainly happens in other NHS hospitals.
The true story of why Mr Strangwood didn’t get his surgery the night of his admission has probably not been told.
