THE SWINGING sixties were a time of peace, love and colourful costumes.

And staff at a residential home in Iffley, Oxford, rolled back the years for National Care Homes Awareness Day.

On Friday the Iffley Residential and Nursing Home for 68 residents decorated the premises with Peace signs, tablecloths in rainbow colours and a range of costumes for staff and residents.

And a series of amateur sixties singers arrived to perform some old classics. Sue Stubberfield, manager of the home in Anne Greenwood Close, donned a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses, a Jimi Hendrix-esque bandana and a rainbow coloured top.

Mrs Stubberfield, who has been the manager of the home for two months, said: “It was something that all the staff decided to do.

“They really enjoyed it. You could just tell by the expressions on their faces how amazing it was to reminisce and go back to when they were young.

“Activities like this are so important for the elderly community.”

Resident Aileen Crauford didn’t hesitate to join in the fun, as she paraded around in a bright yellow-feathered scarf worn alongside a flare-sleeved rainbow-coloured top.

The 88-year-old said: “I think the decorations were wonderful and we should keep them up until Christmas.

“The staff looked really lovely all dressed up too.”
