AN evacuation of the Clarendon Centre this afternoon was sparked by a fire, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
Shoppers were asked to leave the centre, in Cornmarket, after reports of a fire in Costa Coffee.
Firefighters were called and the centre has since reopened.
An Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the fire happened in the store's ventilation system but it was not yet known what caused it.
Earlier reports had indicated that there had been a false alarm, but the fire service has now said there was a blaze its crew had to deal with.
