PLANS for hundreds of new homes on the former Didcot A power station site have now been submitted.
Demolition of Didcot A’s coal yard finished in November and the 47-hectare site was sold to Clowes Developments, which has consulted the public on the housing scheme.
Clowes Developments and Graftongate want to build 400 houses, shops, a hotel and pub on the site. Residents have been shown the plans at Didcot’s Cornerstone Arts Centre.
An outline planning application has now been submitted to Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils.
The outline application also suggests setting aside land for a new bridge, which would link homes at Great Western Park with the eastern section of the A4130 around Didcot.
On June 27 last year three of Didcot A’s iconic cooling towers were demolished, following the closure of the coal-fired plant in 2013, and the three remaining cooling towers are expected to be demolished next year.
According to the plans put forward, the outline planning application includes a mixed-use development of housing, employment, retail, a pub/restaurant and a hotel, and associated sustainable drainage and landscaping.
Didcot town councillor Margaret Davies said: “Most of the new homes will be in Didcot if they are approved.
“If there are 400 homes on the site, that’s about 1,000 residents, so a new school might have to be considered, although at this stage one is not being proposed for this new estate. It sounds like there will be a retail park alongside new homes.”
