ALTHOUGH some in the media focus on the differences between the UK’s faith communities, there is one issue, at least, on which we all agree.
Climate change is an issue of justice. It is our duty to care for our planet so that our children and our children’s children are able to benefit from it as we have done, and because it is the world’s poorest people who are already suffering the impacts of a changing climate.
The overwhelming scientific consensus is that climate change is being driven by the burning of fossil fuels.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was right when he recently said: ‘Science and religion are not at odds on climate change. Indeed, they are fully aligned.’ Many thousands will be lobbying our elected officials tomorrow afternoon in Westminster.
All are welcome to join in – people of all faiths and none.
We urge the newly-elected Government to take the necessary action to tackle climate change: we will support them every step of the way.
