A SPECIAL delivery of new equipment for the John Radcliffe Hospital’s Newborn Care Unit was brought by a couple who lost their baby son in 2013.
Kirsty and Jonathan Stansfield were devastated by the loss of their first-born George on December 2, 2013.
In the final minutes of labour his brain was deprived of oxygen and he was transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where staff fought hard to save him.
Since then, the pair have set up a fundraising group, “Team George”, and have raised about £76,000 for SSNAP, an Oxford-based charity supporting the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The couple held running groups, coffee mornings, quiz nights and a charity ball.
On Wednesday the couple, whose second son Jack was born in December, handed over medical equipment including temperature-regulating cots and a transport trolley kitted out with lifesaving equipment.
Mrs Stansfield, from Milton Keynes, said: “The cot was something we felt quite strongly about. This has a cooler in it; once your baby has gone, you can keep them in the room with you. It’s nice to see the equipment in the flesh.”
