VOLUNTEERS at an Oxford charity are appealing for donations to deliver to homeless migrants in Calais.
Emmaus UK will be sending trucks filled with supplies to France on July 5, and have asked Oxford residents to donate unwanted items.
The homeless charity is looking for non-perishable food, clothing, sleeping bags, tents and cooking equipment to help migrants escaping conflicts around the world.
The Oxford branch provides housing for 28 volunteers, known as ‘companions’, who have recently experienced homelessness.
They are given shelter and work in the charity’s shops to restore old furniture, which is sold to raise money.
Over 2,500 migrants are currently living homeless in Calais, according to the charity, and this number is rising.
Operations manager Carl Salisbury, 50, said: “We provide solidarity and help to other charities and people in need.”
The Oxford branch has two shops, in Westlands Drive and Temple Meads Shopping Centre, where people can donate supplies.
