CASH to refit a specialist light room and buy bikes and trikes for the pupils at Kingfisher School was raised after it celebrated a milestone with a fete.
The special event on Saturday was organised to help mark the school’s 50th anniversary.
Pupils made arts and crafts to sell and there was a barbecue, bric a brac stalls, and a raffle.
Claire Jacks went to the event with her 20-year-old daughter Shanie Jacks who has Down’s Syndrome and is a former pupil at the school.
She said: “All the old staff were there and quite a lot of old pupils turned up. It was really great to catch up with everyone.”
Organiser Georgina Hicks, whose six-year-old son Isaac goes to the school, said: “It was absolutely fantastic.
“We woke up in the morning and the weather looked less than brilliant so we moved everything indoors to the school hall. It was extremely successful.
“A lot of former pupils also came back to celebrate the 50th anniversary.”
The fete was organised by the school’s parents, friends and staff association – which hopes to put the money towards revamping the school’s light room.
This is a room full of light-based activities that is calming and therapeutic for the pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities.
