WOLVERCOTE Primary School has earned itself the title of School of Rock after students recorded covers of classic rock numbers at a recording studio.
Flammable is made up of 19 students and is led by Year 5 teacher Mark Hamilton, who says he “could not be more proud.”
He said: “It’s amazing to see children excelling at something, particularly the children who struggle academically.”
While at Evolution Studios on Osney Mead yesterday, the children recorded covers of I Love Rock n Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and The Script’s Superheroes.
They spent the day with Nick Moorbath, a session keyboard player of 1990s bands Ride and Hurricane No 1, who toured the world and played the main stage at Glastonbury Festival.
As a promoter he staged the likes of Radiohead, Kings of Leon and Muse, and as a venue owner, he successfully ran Oxford’s premier live music club — the Zodiac.
Mr Hamilton said: “The children really are incredibly talented and we had such a fantastic day at the recording studio with Nick.
“We will be releasing our tracks on to the school’s website so that anyone can have a listen.”
Mr Hamilton said the student will be doing their first live performance at Wolvercote Primary School tomorrow.
He said: “Everyone is really excited.”
