Sir – I assume Alison Myres (Letters, June 4) is familiar with the differences between bees and wasps, however, her description of the material from which the nest was made and the fact that she was aggressively stung leads me to wonder if her blue tit box had in fact been hijacked by wasps.
If she would take a sample of the nest material and if possible some of the grubs and dead insects to the Museum of Natural History in Parks Road, Oxford, they will be able to confirm the species concerned.
