A TROUPE of Oxford University a capella stars jetted to the world-famous cabaret Moulin Rouge for their latest charity hit.
Members of Out of the Blue are hoping their cover of Lady Marmalade will raise thousands for East Oxford’s Helen and Douglas House.
The song, which was released three days ago, has already had more than 15,000 hits on YouTube.
Musical director Rosham Forouhi, 20, said: “We are looking forward to seeing it blossom. We just want to raise the largest amount possible. That would be amazing. It’s a great honour to be able to support Helen and Douglas House like we do.”
Out of the Blue found fame after a number of its musical charity singles went viral.
The group released a cover of Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie last July which was tweeted by the Spanish singer and raised £10,000 for Helen and Douglas House after getting more than five million YouTube hits.
A cover of Mariah Carey’s festive hit All I Want For Christmas Is You, released last December, also raised about £7,500 for the hospice, with more than two million hits online.
Mansfield College student Mr Forouhi said it was “crazy” how much support the a capella stars had received.
He added: “It brings home the idea that what we are doing matters to some people.”
It is the third time the student singers have recorded a cover for the Magdalen Road hospice.
Out of the Blue singers were whisked off to Paris’ Moulin Rouge club in March to film the video for their latest venture, which was also shot at Lincoln College’s library.
Proceeds from the single, which is on sale at online store Bandcamp for £1, will support terminally ill children and adults at the hospice.
Mr Forouhi, of St Clement’s, said the group were “proud” to support the charity, often going down to the hospice to sing to its sick youngsters and adults.
He added: “It’s one of the most special things that we do as a group. We have quite a personal relationship with them.
“We really love the work that they do and do as much as possible for them.
Out of the Blue are also set to perform at the New Theatre Oxford next Wednesday.
