MOVE over Victoria Beckham and Tom Ford, these daring designs are the work of Oxford teenagers.
The young design students from City of Oxford College showcased their creations at an end-of-year show at the college on Friday night.
The fashion and art and design students designed, made and styled their collections for the catwalk show at the college’s city centre campus in Oxpens Road.
All the clothes were modelled by dance students from the college, while hair and beauty students helped make sure the models were “runway ready”.
Alison Brodey, 19, who lives in Kidlington and has just completed a two-year fashion, clothing and styling course, said preparing for the show had helped her hone her designs.
She said: “Putting on a fashion show encourages you to think about more than just the clothes.
“You need to think about the styling, accessories and the whole feel you are trying to create. I was really pleased with the end result.” She said the course had been “really inspiring”.
Having secured a place at university she now plans a gap year to take up some fashion internships.
Chloe Walsingham, also 19, modelled her designs on a slightly unusual European figure.
She said: “My clothing was inspired by a Spanish patron saint, who is the subject of a street festival in Spain each year.
“I took inspiration from Spanish architecture and gave it a contemporary twist.
“This course has been demanding – mentally and conceptually – but it has been really good preparation for university.”
Next year she will start at the University of the Arts in London studying costume for performance.
Former students on fashion courses at City of Oxford College include Rosie Dennington, who went on to design for actress Helena Bonham Carter.
Creative arts students showcase their work in June each year as part of the college’s end-of-year shows.
