TRIPLE murder suspect Jed Allen was still being sought by police today in an operation involving more than 100 officers.
University Parks in the centre of Oxford was shut down as officers searched for the 21-year-old in connection with the murders of his mother Jan Jordon, 48, his half-sister Derin Jordon, six, and Philip Howard, 44.
Their bodies were found in their home in Vicarage Road, Didcot, shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday when police were called by a member of the public.
Thames Valley Police said the most likely cause of death for the trio was stab wounds.
Mr Howard was Ms Jordon’s partner and the father of Derin.
Just hours after releasing a photo of Allen at a press conference yesterday morning, Thames Valley Police were seen descending on University Parks.
Dozens of officers in riot gear, along with police dogs, arrived at the grounds, in Oxford, just before 2pm.
Armed officers were also at University Parks but police said Allen, who had once been employed as a groundskeeper by Oxford University, was not believed to be armed.
Det Supt Chris Ward appeals for information
Speaking at the morning press conference at Thames Valley Police headquarters in Kidlington Det Supt Chris Ward appealed for information about Allen.
He is described as being of large build, white and having a distinctive tattoo of a spider on his left hand.
Det Supt Ward said: “It is important that we locate him as quickly as we can. I do not believe there are any dangers to the wider community of Oxford, however given the nature of what we are dealing with it’s important we find him as quickly and safely as possible. We carried out a number of inquiries last night at addresses where we believe he may have been and sadly we have not found him.”
He added that the families of the victims had been informed.
r Howard, Ms Jordon and Derin had moved to the house in Vicarage Road within the past two months but had lived elsewhere in Didcot before that.
The road was sealed off and police said it would likely remained closed today.
Police activity in Oxford continued throughout yesterday, with a police helicopter over University Parks from about noon until about 2pm, when officers in riot were seen entering the parks.
They walked north into the grounds and returned shortly before 5pm. Most police activity appeared to be centred towards the north-east of the park, near the River Cherwell.
Tourist Roland Rossler, 44, from Hamburg in Germany, was one of many people who were surprised to find the parks’ gates locked.
He said: “I just came down to University Parks this morning and I was told they were shut.
“I heard there is a murder and now police are looking for someone.
It’s very worrying.”
The park remained closed for the rest of the day, but police activity appeared to be scaled back as darkness fell.
In Didcot a private ambulance pulled up outside the house in Vicarage Road at about 4.30pm and three bodies were brought out of the property.
Det Supt Ward said post-mortem examinations would be carried out today. As of last night no arrests had been made in connection with the murders.
