* For many years, the Jersey Arms followed the Welsh tradition of closing on Sundays, much to the annoyance of passing travellers. But all that changed in 1982 when what was described as an “irritating anachronism” was swept away. Robert Ansell is pictured taking down the sign.
* A donkey derby and fete in 1969 raised £321 towards the cost of village hall improvements. Helicopter pilot Gay Absalom landed her craft in the grounds of Rectory Farm before opening the fete. Wendy Solomon, nine, is pictured with Buy Me Please, the donkey she rode in the race.
* Carolyn McFarlan achieved a long-held ambition of running her own restaurant. Best-selling author Dick Francis opened Froggies – so named because of the owner’s passion for collecting model frogs – in 1984. Mr Francis is pictured, centre, with Miss McFarlan, second from left, and members of her family.
