UKIP candidate Alan Harris suggested his party was part of the reason for the Liberal Democrat decline in Oxford West and Abingdon.
Mr Harris said: “When I was canvassing in Kidlington it looked like some Lib Dem voters were considering swapping over to UKIP.
“The Lib Dems want to stay in Europe and that worries a lot of people.
“People want a referendum on Europe.”
