Tim Gustafson was inspired to take part in this year's OX5 Run by the ill children he sees entering Oxford's new children's hospital every day.

As clinical governance co-ordinator at Manor Hospital, Mr Gustafson's place of work overlooks the new Oxford Children's Hospital.

And it was the sight of the sick which led him to sign up for the five-mile charity run in the grounds of Blenheim Palace.

The 44-year-old, who is responsible for ensuring quality and safety in clinical care at the private hospital, said: "I have a 10-year-old boy and seeing all those children going in and out of the hospital each day brings it to the forefront of my mind.

"I am sure my son will benefit from the children's hospital some day, because he is always climbing trees and getting scrapes and bruises. It is a very worthy cause."

Mr Gustafson, of Iffley Fields, Oxford, is hoping to raise at least £100 for the children's hospital appeal and, at the same time, get in good shape for the Blenheim Triathlon in June.

He added: "I think it is a fantastic event and I just hope that I can post a good time. The only trouble is I'll have to cycle and swim as well in the Blenheim Triathlon."

The OX5 Run takes place on Sunday, March 25, and organisers are hoping that the number of entrants will top last year's figure of just over 1,200. To take part, fill in the application form on this page, or at www.oxfordmail.net as soon as possible.

Those who raise £100 in sponsorship will earn a limited edition Chox T-shirt; those who raise £200 will be rewarded with a limited edition Chox sweatshirt, and those who manage to break the £300 barrier will receive a limited edition Chox hooded top.

The closing date for entries is Saturday, March 10.
