A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in the Bankside area of Banbury today.
Police said a man attacked her while walking along the Bankside, near Newbold Close at about 3.30am.
He approached her from behind, pulled her to the ground and tried to remove her clothing, police said.
The victim, in her 30s, struggled and the attacker ran away.
Det Insp John Turner said: “This was extremely distressing for the victim. As part of our investigation we have carried out a forensic examination at the scene of the incident and have also conducted house-to-house inquiries in the Bankside area.
“We would urge anyone who was in the area in the early hours and may have seen anything relating to this incident to call us as a matter of urgency.
“While this was a deeply upsetting experience for the victim and we are doing all we can to bring the perpetrator to justice, we would like to reassure the public that this type of offence is rare in Banbury.”
