Sir – Daniel Emlyn-Jones (Letters, January 15) has implied that the response to Castle Mill is a ‘subjective matter’.
It is incorrect that this is the basis of the current drive to remedy the damage caused to Oxford’s heritage by the Castle Mill development. Its negative impact has been proven and thoroughly documented in the Environmental Impact Assessment, which has now been further endorsed by several independent reviews.
This campaign is not unimportant, as he also has suggested. The legal protection of both heritage and environment have been put in place over time, and compliance by both individuals and institutions is required.
The University of Oxford is in trouble because it cut corners and misrepresented the impact of the Castle Mill development.
