A MAN is in hospital after he was cut across the face by a stranger, police said.
The 22-year-old was attacked yesterday at 5.30pm in the alleyway between Sinclair Avenue and Evenlode, Banbury.
Police said he bumped into his attacker and after speaking to each other the man reached into his pocket.
The victim was slapped around the face and then realised he was bleeding and had been cut.
He is being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Spokeswoman Connie Primmer said "There was no weapon seen at the time but he was cut in the face so we are keeping an open mind as to what caused it."
She said the attacker was mixed race, aged between 19 and 20 and about 6ft.
He was wearing a dark green coat with the hood up and he may have been wearing a black beanie style hat or he could have had dark hair. He was possibly wearing a dark blue tracksuit.
He was with another man who was Asian, about 5ft and wearing a T-shirt with a hooded top and jeans.
PC Richard Blewitt said: “Sinclair Avenue is a populated part of Banbury and due to the time of the incident it is highly likely that members of the public would have been returning from work."
