THE jury in the Jake Blakeley case has been sent home for the night.

Jake Blakeley, 18, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of preventing her lawful burial after she was strangled by Ben in December 2013.

Jake and Ben dug two holes, one in a field in the countryside south of Didcot and the second in their uncle's grave in All Saints Church, Didcot.

The jury heard that Jake, who was 17 at the time, thought Ben was burying weapons and a dead cat and dog, not Jayden's body.

Summing up the evidence of the trial, Judge Patrick Eccles said: "Jake Blakeley said he had nothing to do with Jayden's clothing or her burial.

"He said he did not connect his actions to Jayden's disappearance."

Before sending them out to consider their verdict at about 2.20pm, Judge Eccles told the jury he needed a unanimous verdict.

He said: "The court cannot accept anything other than a unanimous verdict in relation to a child.

"Since December 17, 2013, Jake said that he wanted to come clean and tell the police what he knew.

"The prosecution say he is trying to help himself by doing this."
