BUILDING works to expand a Wantage primary school have entered their final phase.
The project at Charlton Primary School is creating two new classrooms, an extension to the playground and a new staff room.
A new administration block and a new toilet block will also be added.
The project will turn Charlton into a two-form entry school with two classes per year.
The final phase began on Friday, January 16, with the arrival of diggers on site.
Year Five pupil Harriet Cox said: “Going to see the building work beginning was cool. Seeing all the diggers and machinery – I can’t wait to see it all finished.”
The main entrance to the school will be moved to a more prominent and accessible location at the front of the building.
Headteacher Jenny de la Coze said: “This is a truly exciting time for the school and we have looked forward to the start of the final phase since the program began three years ago.
“It will be great to see it taking shape over the rest of this academic year.”
The works are scheduled for completion by the summer, ready for September.
Deputy head teacher Steven Rose said: “The pupils have been brilliant adapting to the necessary changes while the work takes place – as always a real credit to the school.”
