A LORRY driver killed a father-of-two when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his 44-tonne vehicle into an oncoming Porsche.
Keith Marsh, of Dartford, Kent, was jailed for two years yesterday at Oxford Crown Court following the accident on the A4130 on November 20, 2013.
The 61-year-old admitted causing the death of Joel Roques, whose loss was described as “devastating” by his widow Anne in an emotional statement read out in court.
Prosecutor Matthew Walsh said Marsh was driving from Nettlebed to Nuffield when his skip-loader lorry failed to straighten its course after a gentle bend.
He told Judge Tom Corrie the heavy goods vehicle was travelling at about 40mph and drifted into the right-hand lane, colliding with Mr Roques’s accelerating sports car.
The barrister said the 51-year-old was killed instantly.
Mr Walsh added Marsh, who had been suffering from insomnia and depression, blamed the tragedy on briefly falling asleep.
