FRIENDS and relatives of patients at Sobell House Hospice in Oxford will step out in its first Winter Walk at Woodstock’s Blenheim Palace tomorrow.
About 170 walkers will pay £10 to complete a four-mile circuit around the palace gardens with the proceeds going towards the £4m needed each year to fund the hospice at the Churchill Hospital in Headington.
Fundraiser and walk leader Kevin Game said: “It’s a winter walk to get people out and burn off a few calories after Christmas.
“It’s a good chance to do a bit of fundraising and re-engage with our supporters and fundraisers after the Christmas downtime.”
Our top stories
On top of the money it gets from the Government, the fundraising team still has to raise £1.6m each year.
It has a 19-bed inpatient unit at the Churchill Hospital and a day centre that patients attend for treatments.
Mr Game added: “Blenheim is a very famous place in Oxfordshire and it’s a nice quiet place to walk.
“We’ve got really lovely supporters out there in the community and about one million people in Oxfordshire are touched by our work, so this is a great chance for us to get together with some of our supporters.”
The walk starts at 10.30am and all places are now taken.
