Sir – I am very concerned about the safety of staff at the Cherwell School in Oxford. All the students, when necessary, cross the very busy Marston Ferry link road by the underpass. However, the staff do not and regularly cross via a five-bar gate situated in a sports field.

It is incredibly dangerous. I have seen staff holding boxes and many files, trying to weave across the road, occasionally dropping items and picking them up again.

Besides putting their lives at stake for the sake of saving one or two minutes, the staff have become extremely poor role models to the youngsters. Hopefully the management of the school will act soon to ensure staff are not seriously injured.
