WEST Oxfordshire District Council is proposing to freeze its council tax for the fifth year running.
The council’s cabinet agreed yesterday to recommend that full council should agree to freeze the tax when it sets its annual budget on February 25.
If agreed the freeze would keep the district’s share of council tax at £81.63 for a Band D property.
Simon Hoare, the council’s cabinet member for resources, said: “We have a commitment to keeping council tax low and the recommendation will be to freeze levels for 2015-16.
“Our successful efficiency savings programme and shared working has put us in a steady position and local taxpayers will be pleased to know that we are on target to deliver a budget that is not only low-taxing, but is balanced, efficient and safeguards all our high-quality services.”
Budget commitments will include the continuation of free parking in all council-owned car parks across West Oxfordshire.
The district's share of the council tax represents 5.5 per cent of a household’s total council tax bill.
Eighty per cent of the bill is payable to Oxfordshire County Council.
